At the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas DJI have launched Tello a £99 nano consumer drone with a new robotics startup Ryze.
Tello is DJI’s first low-cost consumer drone. DJI collaborated with Ryze Robotics, a tech startup specializing in drones, to release this nano drone.
It features an intel processor for photo processing, along with image stabilization and the ability to capture 5mp pictures. It may only feature 720p transmission for its video function, pretty good for a drone under £100.
It has something calles EZShots which boast automated circle, 360 and selfie shots. These can be shared on social media from your smartphone.
It comes with VR support for first-person flying, as well an app to connect a controller for even more precision and control.
It has Scratch, an MIT-developed coding system that allows you to learn more about programming and customizing your drone.
It seems to be aimed at a young audience, with features that will make it safe and easy to use, including automatic takeoff and landing. These features are possible because of an Intel vision processing chip and flight stabilization from DJI.
Tello uses an Intel Movidius Myriad 2 VPU, which handles object recognition in DJI drones, letting them do things like respond to hand gestures. In the Tello, it’s supposed to help the drone hover in one place more consistently, or land in an outstretched palm.
The tech packed in this small drone is amazing, it could be the most popular request for a present when it is launched in March 2018. We will pre-order our DJI Tello this month.
With a weight of 80grams the Tello is light, the DJI Spark drone weighs in at close to 300 grams.
