A very impressive DJI Reflections promotional video has been released by them on the DJI Youtube channel, so rumours and speculation is all around the internet.
DJI are going to announce this new product this week on Wednesday 11 October at 5pm PST.
The video is a teaser trailing a new product that’s due to launch on October 11. It does not say what the product is which is where our comparison to the legendary Apple product launches come from.
DJI have forged a close relationship with Apple in the last 18 months. Apple stores now stock the DJI Phantom 4, Mavic Pro and Spark drones. DJI packaging copies the clean elegant feel of all Apple Packaging.
The Next Stage in Cinematic Vision
DJI’s 45 second trailer video’s headline called “Reflections” is ‘The Next Stage in Cinematic Vision’.
This could mean a brand new product or a new camera, media speculation and opinions are divided.
If it is a new drone it could be the long-awaited Phantom 5 or a new Mavic Pro 2.
Both are possible, following last month’s new releases, which were very minor upgrades called the Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian and the Mavic Pro Platinum. Although DJI do have a history of taking lots of product pre-orders, and then releasing a completely new model a month later. However we think we would have seen leaked images if it was going to be a new DJI drone.
DJI Reflections – What Could It Be?
Is this a completely new brand based on the word ‘Reflections”. In the DJI Reflections video the text is read aloud by the female announcer and there could be a hint:
“What is it that allows us to dream? To feel?
Every flicker of light reflects the world around us and makes us who we are.
Our minds will not compromise, but keep on wandering, looking for the images that reach our hearts.
The eternal tension between the creator and his creation is what gives us the desire to strive for perfection in all that we do.“
What is really interesting about this video is that it has shots that are taken from a handheld gimbal along with aerial photography. The DJI Reflections video ends with this shallow depth of field capture of a lens.
Perhaps the Hasselblad partnership has had an influence on a combined product between DJI and Hasselblad.
Will it be taking Aerial Photography to the Next Level
Well the drone aerial photography video shots in the DJI Reflections video are high end suggesting a quality high spec camera.
We think this maybe it’s also a clue as to the origins of DJI’s new product. The product could be both a drone and a handheld gimbal, a modular device that can be adapted to suit the situation you’re faced with. A device similar to the GoPro Karma but at a lot more professional high end level maybe called the Osmo 2.
If DJI move towards a 2-in-1 product this could make life very difficult for GoPro, who are already struggling in the drone market.
DJI already has the Osmo which shares cameras with the Inspire 1, but they never were totally compatible, because DJI choose them not to be.
Just look at the two separate versions of the Z3 zoom camera, which in our opinion DJI could have sold many more, if they were interchangeable between the Osmo and Inspire 1.
Well not long to wait for the answer to all the buzz and speculation.
