The all new DJI Smart Controller has a built-in 5.5-inch 1080p screen, providing an ultra-bright display to keep your live feed easily viewable, even in direct sunlight. At 1000 cd/m2, the display is approximately twice as bright as conventional smart device screens.
The DJI Smart Controller is designed to maximize your outdoor flying experience with the Mavic 2 or other aircraft equipped with OcuSync 2.0. However It is not clear if it will work with the Phantom 4 Pro V2 which has OcuSync 2.0.
The 5.5-inch built-in screen displays clear, bright images, even under challenging conditions. Intuitive controls and pre-installed features like SkyTalk and the DJI GO 4 app get you up in the air quicker, clearer, and more conveniently than ever before.
Equipped with OcuSync 2.0 Full-HD video transmission technology, the DJI Smart Controller supports automatic switching between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, reducing the influence of environmental interference on drone operation and image quality. The antennas give a range of 8km (in the US) or 5km (in the UK), with the connection’s stability improved by the automatic switching between the 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz bands depending on which is best.
Those distances are more theoretical than realistic though – in the UK you’re unlikely to be able to use the full extent of that range, as the maximum visible line of sight in this country is 500m.
Quick Connection
The DJI Smart Controller connects to your drone as soon as it’s powered on so you can take off fast and never miss a moment of the action. Featuring an integrated design with detachable control sticks, the DJI Smart Controller is also portable enough to bring with you anywhere.
The DJI Smart Controller comes with a built-in microphone and speaker for expanded options such as live streaming. It can also playback video through the HDMI output port at 4K with H.264 or H.265. The microphone allows you to for add commentary to your aerial videos.
Difficult Conditions
The DJI Smart Controller is capable of stable operation in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 40°C, giving you a reliable HD connection with your drone in more places. The Smart Controller can keep going for 2.5-hours per charge.
Transfer of Images
Easily transfer your aerial photos and videos from the DJI Smart Controller to your mobile phone or table device using the DJI GO 4 app’s new Go Share function.
Using Other Apps with the DJI Smart Controller
The DJI Smart Controller’s customized Android system and optimized DJI GO 4 app give you freedom from the restraints of conventional mobile devices to ensure faster, focused aerial creation. The Smart Controller also supports third-party apps like Litchi for a variety of additional sharing, 360 aerial panoramas, 360 Photography and editing options.
Inside the Smart Controller is 16GB of storage, though this isn’t really for storing full-resolution videos and stills. Instead, this stores cached, 720p versions of your files, so you can see what you’ve recorded without taking the microSD card out of your drone.
Proper storage comes via the Controller’s microSD slot, where you can slot in a 128GB card to swallow up your recordings and also install third-party apps.
The price in the UK is £579 which is high but this controller is targeted more at the enterprise customers and commercial operators using the Mavic 2 range of drones.
We are now considering adding the new DJI smart controller to our UAV Equipment.
